Training

According to Statistics Canada, "Investment in human capital, such as education and skills training, is three times as important for economic growth over the long run as investment in physical capital."

A major Canadian study on the cost-benefit ratio of apprenticeship training revealed that for every dollar spent on apprenticeship training, an employer receives a benefit of $1.38 (source Canadian Forum on Apprenticeship, 2006). These findings suggest that training is a worthwhile investment to employers.

A report by Australia’s National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) observed that "... commitment to the skill and training of its employees are far and away the most powerful predictors of improvements in company’s productivity and profitability."

Another study mentions that "... the provision of training may actually improve [employee] retention by providing motivation in the workplace and persuading employees that they are with a good employer." "The evidence points consistently towards the provision of training actually lowering the risk of workers leaving, rather than increasing it" (Source: Ananiadou, 2003). This information comes from a 2007 report prepared by Allan Bailey, CEO of Learning Designs Online.
