Hardent Electronic Design Services Supports The G-Force Project

December 22, 2011

Hardent Design Engineers Look to the Future by Sponsoring a Student-Run Long-Term Engineering Project at the University of Sherbrooke

Hardent Electronic Design Services is proud to announce an initiative supporting the student-run G-Force race simulation project. This project–consisting of mechanical and electronic product design–aims to create a race car simulator that allows the driver to experience similar sensations he or she would feel when driving a physical race car. Developed with both practical and entertainment values in mind, the simulator will allow enthusiasts to enjoy the feel of competitive racing, while enabling professional race car drivers to practice with similar physical conditions to what they will experience. The dynamics are programmed to provide the race car driver with as close an experience as possible next to driving a real vehicle, and thus provide him with the ability to train and develop his abilities in a much safer and cost-efficient manner. This is accomplished by a carefully constructed hydraulic system and an electronic design that rotates the frame of the simulator in 6 degrees of freedom, using gravity to mimic the centrifugal forces an actual vehicle would experience.

Where as other racing simulators already exist, this project, undertaken by Marc-Antoine Turcotte, Julien Bertrand, Jean-Pascal Ross, Charles Moisan-Willis, and Alexandre Laforest– engineering students from the University of Sherbrooke–is focused on creating a simulator that is much more economical and realistic than those currently on the market. The development and electronic product design took place in specialized labs at the university, and had been completed last week after 24 months of work.

This initiative, kicked-off in conjunction with the University of Sherbrooke and other organizations, is an important part of Hardent’s commitment to support and be a part of its community. “Hardent is always looking forward and proud to assist the students with this project” said Simon Robin, founder and president of Hardent, “We want to help inspire them and show the impact of electronic design and what they’re capable of doing.”
