Hardent to Deliver an FPGA Design Workshop at the Upcoming Canadian Space Agency FPGA Conference

September 22, 2011

Hardent Electronic Design Services was invited by the CSA to present a seminar about FPGA space design targeted at technical and non-technical staff working in space application development

As part of the effort of the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) to encourage the use of Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) in Canadian Space Missions, the CSA is hosting a 2-day conference and have asked Hardent to open with an FPGA introductory workshop. The Hardent FPGA workshop is scheduled on Tuesday the 27th of September, at 9:45 in the morning.

Being one of the leading FPGA design consulting bodies in North America, Hardent has extensive experience in the area of space application development, and will be able to effectively introduce managers and systems engineers to the value of using FPGA design. Hardent is also a recipient of the CGP (Canadian Controlled Goods Program) and is a prominent Authorised Training Provider for Xilinx FPGAs.

FPGAs have dramatically improved over the years, and can provide new capabilities for space-borne systems development. The development process, cost involved, performance and verification have all changed in response to new technologies, and offer new challenges in planning, development and management. “Once thought of as highly specialized solution,” Simon Robin, Hardent’s CEO explains, “FPGAs have evolved to include multiple IP processors and can now offer a lot more flexibility to the designer. The technology now has great potential for general use by the space development community.”

The aim of Hardent’s workshop is to present an overview of FPGA technologies and the benefits in using them as part of the space missions. The workshop will further examine the process of FPGA development—everything from selection to testing—for both technical and non-technical stake-holders.

I’ve worked with Hardent for many years and have recommended them a few times in the past. Hardent has always been extremely successful with their clients. They have many flexible ways of working with a client and will negotiate a mutually beneficial solution.

In our case, they just log into our servers and we are in constant contact via IM, email, phone, etc., but they have all their own design tools as well, so they can work either way. Being in the same time zone makes working with them easy. I am sure you will be happy with the outcome of their work. They’ll hit the ground running much faster than a single contractor would.
