Dental Wings Leverages Hardent’s FPGA, Embedded Software, & Board Design Expertise
The Challenge: Develop the next generation of the Dental Wings Intraoral Scanner
Launched in 2017, the Dental Wings Intraoral Scanner is a hand-held device that allows clinicians to quickly and easily create digital impression data that can be used to design and produce dental restorations, implants, and orthodontics. […]
The Solution
The new scanner would keep the same principle of stereoscopy, but be based on a new optical design.Using global shuttering techniques controlled in an FPGA, along with new multi-spectral fast sensors, and a cutting-edge optical system, higher resolutions with less hardware complexity became a reality.
These changes called for a new board design with flexible PCBs and innovative programmable sync generator logic to optimise the camera and critical data capture. In the world of dental imagery, no pixel can be left unaccounted for!

Engineering Design Verification
The Challenge
An Application Specific Semiconductor Product (ASSP) manufacturer was on a tight schedule for the development of a new product containing several important new features. The manufacturer was concerned that the rush to get the product to market might compromise its quality.
The Solution
As the company’s engineering team did not have the right resources to implement the verification environment for this product, they turned to Hardent’s verification experts who designed a comprehensive verification methodology based on SystemVerilog and OVM. Assertions were added on critical interfaces to trap communication problems upfront. To reduce risk and cut development time, the customer’s legacy verification IP was reused by adding OVM wrappers. Constrained-driven random stimulus generation was put in place, which allowed for the detection of special corner-case problems early in the verification cycle while reducing the number of test cases needed. Finally, functional coverage was implemented to ensure the new modules were well verified under all operating conditions.
Business Benefits for Customer
At the end of the project, the customer possessed a cost-effective, highly configurable, and easy to maintain verification environment that guaranteed a high level of quality assurance. In addition to this, the client’s verification engineers gained expertise in high-level verification methodologies and still have access to support from the Hardent team.

DDR Interface
The Challenge
A computer manufacturer migrating to the Virtex-7 platform needed to accelerate their design cycle and required advanced FPGA training for the company’s design team.
The Solution
As experienced trainers and a Xilinx Authorized Training Provider (ATP), we developed a private class for the customer’s engineers that was delivered by an expert FPGA design engineer. Several aspects of design engineering were presented in the training, including how to implement a high-speed DDR3 memory interface. Issues in signal integrity were also addressed. Our signal integrity experts are able to quickly perform signal integrity analysis and recommend a solution to overcome relevant challenges.
Business Benefits for Customer
Private training accompanied by signal integrity analysis from Hardent’s electronic design team, equipped the company’s team with the necessary skills to quickly transform their design cycle and bring their product to market on schedule.

Timing Closure
The Challenge
A telecommunications equipment manufacturer was struggling to meet performance expectations on a Virtex-7 device. With more than twenty clock domains, the design was highly complex.
The Solution
Drawing on the expertise of our electronic design team, we set up a team to work with the customer to rewrite the timing constraints and map out floorplanning using the Vivado Design Suite software tool.
Business Benefits for Customer
With Hardent’s assistance, the customer was able to easily meet their timing objectives with every build and was introduced to a new flow that sped up the timing closure process significantly.
